Lower Elementary Lead Teacher
Carolan, although born in New York State, moved to the Wood River Valley at the age of 2 and has always known this to be home. She grew up playing in the mountains and rivers surrounding Ketchum. She had the good fortune of attending the local Montessori school from ages 3-5 and loved it. Her journey through school led her to the University of Vermont, and then back to the west where she began teaching and leading students in the outdoors in Washington and Oregon states. Her teaching career began in earnest teaching middle school students science and math in a charter school in Durango, Colorado. However, when she walked into a Montessori classroom for a teaching position in Boulder, she was brought ‘home’ in a new way, falling back in love with the education that had guided her from the start. She started and led a Montessori middle school program for four years. She then moved back to the Wood River Valley in 2003, with her family in tow, and has been teaching at Pioneer Montessori School since 2008. In 2009 she received her AMS Montessori training from the Montessori Education Center of the Rockies. She has now spent 25 years teaching students of various ages- from preschool through high school. She is thrilled to be offering a style of education that she believes deeply in, in a town that she has such strong connections to.
